An open letter to the good people of the US of A from a concerned citizen of the world.
I’m getting very worried. PLEASE KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE BALL.
Don’t be distracted by the shiny object fluttering before your eyes. Sarah Palin is nothing more than a red herring. And a particularly fragrant one at that.
I live in a nation where voting is compulsory. Which is both a blessing and a curse for reasons that I will not elaborate upon here. But it seems to me that most of the battle over there is convincing people to vote. And the ongoing attacks on Sarah Palin will become a clarion call to Republican voters who might otherwise have stayed at home rather than turn out to vote for the not-quite-right-enough McCain.
They will rally in the streets in support of the pretty, fecund lady with the common touch. Result: big turn-out on election day to support the shootingest, fishingest, root-toot-tootingest VP candidate EVAH!! It’s a wonderfully, devilishly, brilliant tactical move. She represents the basest of the most base Republican ideals.
Obama’s team gets it. Hence its deafening silence. The only way to neutralise this is to turn your collective back en masse. Death of a thousand cuts directed against Palin and her family is not only wrong and unfair, but it won’t do the job. Focus on the things that might actually win this one for you. Please?
