untangling the awkward relationship between art and money

For art lovers

Another little bit I’ve penned came out in The Age today.

Things they are a’ changing in the local arts scene. To get things made and done, makers of creative work have to look to philanthropists to boost flagging contributions from the public purse. And as anyone who has ever worked in fundraising will tell you, it doesn’t come easily. Or cheaply. Where does that leave us?

Well, for the answer, you’re going to have to google my name and philanthropy (there’s your spelling challenge for the day). “PHILANTHROPY”… from the Greek for “love of humankind.” What?! Oh, come on. I meant it in a completely platonic way. Really. You people.
